Coral Restoration

Coral Reefs are facing extreme threats. Anthropogenic effects of ocean warming, acidification and pollution have damaged and continue to damage the reefs which we all love and depend on. With every Reef Regeneration purchase, 10% of profits are donated to a coral restoration foundation. These include the Coral Restoration Foundation in Florida and the Great Barrier Reef Foundation in Australia. We want our fellow hobbyists to make a positive difference for reefs when purchasing corals.

Aquaculture

The aquarium industry only adds to the pressures on wild reefs. Many of the well known coral vendors in the US import corals taken from wild reefs. Not only does the removal of these corals further damage wild reefs, but they also are not well adapted to captivity which leads to their eventual demise. For every well known and successful coral that is widespread in the hobby, many more lineages were lost in the transition of reefs to aquariums. Many importers will receive unhealthy wild corals, often laced with pests, and frag the corals to quickly sell to hobbyists before it is clear the corals will survive or not. If your vendor does not explicitly state that they aquaculture, it is likely their corals come from the wild. Here at Reef Regeneration, our corals are 100% aquacultured.

Lighting

One of our main goals at Reef Regeneration is to ensure that you know exactly what you are buying. Corals fluoresce intensely in blue light, which makes it very easy for vendors to manipulate colors that would not be seen in your home aquarium. Therefore, many hobbyists, including us here at Reef Regeneration, have become extremely disappointed with the hobby as many feel that vendors are manipulating colors by photographing corals in purely blue light to increase sales. Additionally, hobbyists run their aquariums in a variety of spectrums, and therefore the color of the coral in the home aquarium could never be captured by just one image in blue light. Therefore, we offer a blue and white light picture for every coral for sale. This is virtually unheard of in the reefing industry, as it requires a large amount of effort and time to adjust lighting for every coral. However, we feel that this is something hobbyists have been searching for, and therefore no effort is too great to ensure that you have a positive experience here at Reef Regeneration.
